Ned Goodwin is running away from his guilt over his son's death. But, just like in real life, he couldn't run away from himself and his emotions. Henry took the job to run away from his life, because the pain of losing Julia was too much for him to bear. ![]() Henry is alone throughout the game: Julia is relegated to a photo (where we can't see her face), Delilah is located across a chasm, Brian Goodwin is dead in a cave, Ned Goodwin is invisible, and the teenager girls are far off in the distance. But this is exactly the theme of the game. The ending is a "Sorry Mario, but the princess is in another castle" scenario: Delilah isn't at her lookout and Henry is left alone once again. In fact, I think that the climactic ending would be horrible. I agree that, while it feels anticlimactic, it's actually the perfect ending. While I really liked them, they all mention how Firewatch has an anticlimactic ending. I've watched a few (excellent) YouTube videos discussing Firewatch. This involves talking about the ending, so beware of spoilers!
